SUPREME COURT STRIKES AT HEART OF LABOR MOVEMENT

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 1, 2023) — Today, the Supreme Court put workers’ essential right to strike at risk by allowing corporations to bypass federal law and bombard working Americans with harassing and vexatious lawsuits in state court. Take Back the Court released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in response to the ruling:

“The right to strike is at the heart of the labor movement. It’s no coincidence that this move to kneecap workers comes in a year when they have organized in greater and greater numbers to secure safer and more equitable labor conditions. Given a choice between workers and wealthy corporations, the Roberts Courts will consistently side with corporate interests. If we want a judiciary that puts working Americans ahead of the rich corporations exploiting them, we need to expand the Court.”

The Roberts Court has long proven itself to be an enemy of workers. For more background, see Take Back the Court’s report, “Working Overtime: The Supreme Court’s Assault on the Labor Movement.”
