DEMOCRACY WILL DIE
UNLESS WE TAKE
BACK THE COURT

To restore the right to vote, ensure reproductive freedom, protect workers, halt our climate emergency, and save democracy, Congress must add seats to the U.S. Supreme Court.

We all have a stake in saving our democracy and we all have a role to play. We must insist that candidates for the White House support Court reform and have a workable plan for fixing the damage the Roberts Court has done and will continue to do. We must raise the alarm on the threat the Roberts majority poses to our democracy, our rights, and our ability to address core national problems.

You can help. Find out what you can do here.

Our strategy is to leverage the 2020 presidential election to raise awareness of this crisis in our democracy and compel our leaders to act boldly to reform the Court.

We should be talking about expanding the number of people who serve on the Supreme Court, if there is a Democratic president and a Congress that would do that.

“[Court-packing is] no more a shattering of norms than what's already been done to get the judiciary to where it is today.”

“We are on the verge of a crisis of confidence in the Supreme Court…We have to take this challenge head on, and everything is on the table to do that.”

“If the Republicans are going to try to block us on key pieces that we’re trying to move forward, then you better believe we gotta keep all the options on the table.”

"Kamala D. Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke and Kirsten Gillibrand are among the...contenders declaring themselves at least open to court enlargement. Good. Giving in to McConnell’s manipulation of the judiciary is not principled restraint. It’s cowardice."

Who's

Against It

So out of the ash heap of history came this talk of ‘court-packing.’ A radical proposal that had been dead and buried by bipartisan consensus for almost a century.
— Mitch McConnell
What would @ewarren, @BetoORourke & @KamalaHarris say if @realDonaldTrump decided he wanted to pack the courts to add more conservatives? I think we all know they would be screaming bloody murder. This isn’t about principle for Dems, it’s about power.
— Donald Trump Jr.

We must prevent further destabilization of essential institutions. Court packing is quickly becoming a litmus test for 2020 Democratic candidates. Therefore I will be introducing a constitutional amendment to keep the number of seats on #SCOTUS at 9.
— Marco Rubio
Pres. Trump says he ‘wouldn’t entertain’ idea of adding seats to the Supreme Court. ‘I guarantee, it won’t happen for six years.’
— Donald Trump (on ABC News)

"The only relevant issue is what might be done to restore the [Supreme] Court to something closer to, well, judiciousness."

—EJ Dionne Jr.
